Prayagraj: A hearing and speech-impaired ragpicker, accused of killing his wife and another couple, was injured and arrested by a joint team of Shahganj, Airport police and SOG in an encounter late Wednesday.Cops also seized one country-made pistol of 0.315 bore along with two used and two unused cartridges, and four mobile sets from the accused, a resident of Aligarh.DCP (City) Maneesh Shandilya told TOI, “After the killing of three ragpickers — two women and a man, all of whom were hearing and speech-impaired — inside a rented room in the Gari Kala area under Shahganj police station on Aug 4, police scanned CCTV footage and recovered a photograph from the room. Using these leads, they began tracking a man suspected of visiting the room before fleeing after the killings.”The police team spotted the man wanted in the triple murder case near the airport area and surrounded him. When cops challenged him, he opened fire on the police party. The cops retaliated and left him injured in both legs.Police investigations revealed that the accused’s wife was living with the slain couple for the past few months and the accused suspected that she was having an affair.On Tuesday, the three ragpickers were found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a rented room in the Gari Kala area on Leader Road under the Shahganj police station limits. Police initially suspected that the trio might have fought among themselves.DCP (City) Maneesh Shandilya told TOI that the identities of all three deceased are yet to be established. The deceased’s landlord also failed to establish their identities.
