Bengaluru: The International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-Bangalore) has opened applications for its Research Programmes for Term-II of the academic year 2026-27. The Institute invites applications for its Integrated Ph.D., Ph.D., and full-time Master of Science (MS) by Research programmes. Working professionals interested in pursuing a Ph.D. on a part-time basis can also apply.

The programmes offer opportunities for specialised and interdisciplinary research across multiple departments and research centres at IIIT-Bangalore. The research domains include Computer Science and Software Engineering, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Networking, Communications and Signal Processing, VLSI and Embedded Systems, Mathematics, and Physics. Applications for the Digital Humanities and Societal Systems (DHSS) domain are not being accepted for Term-II.

Prof. Balakrishnan Ashok, Associate Professor and Coordinator (MS and Ph.D.) at IIIT-Bangalore, said, “Research programmes provide students with the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of their chosen fields, engage with complex research questions and contribute to the advancement of knowledge. At IIIT-Bangalore, students can pursue specialised and interdisciplinary research across diverse domains, supported by the Institute’s academic and research environment. We welcome applicants who are keen to explore research and build careers in academia or research and development.”

Eligibility varies across the programmes. The MS by Research requires a four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent. Applicants for the Ph.D. programme require a Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent, while working professionals applying for a part-time Ph.D. are required to submit a No Objection Certificate. For the Integrated Ph.D., applicants require a four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science, an undergraduate score of at least 75%, and a valid GATE score. Domain-specific eligibility requirements are available on the Institute’s website.

Applicants can submit their applications online through pravesh.iiitb.net. The last date to apply is November 9, 2026. Detailed information on the programmes, eligibility criteria, faculty laboratories and research centres is available at http://www.iiitb.ac.in .

Full-time research students are eligible for stipends as per the Institute’s policy for the academic year 2026-27. Full-time MS by Research students are eligible for a stipend of ₹20,000 per month, while full-time Ph.D. students receive ₹38,500 per month until completion of the comprehensive examination and ₹43,500 per month thereafter. Integrated Ph.D. students receive stipends on par with MS by Research students until clearing the comprehensive examination and subsequently on par with Ph.D. students.
