Bengaluru: The high court ordered notice to state govt as well as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in response to a petition filed by Vijayapura MLA Basavaraj Patil Yatnal and All-Karnataka State Students Association, Bengaluru..They are seeking a CBI probe into nepotism charges against KPSC chairperson Shivashankarappa S Sahukar. The petitioners claimed serious allegations have been levelled against the chairperson of an independent constitutional body conceived to function with unimpeachable fairness and institutional integrity. The petitioners alleged Sahukar did not merely preside over the selection process but participated in it in a manner that enabled the selection of his two daughters, who are stated to have claimed the benefit of reservation under Category 3B.Venkatesh P Dalawai, counsel for the petitioners, submitted that the crime registered by KPSC is nothing but an exercise in optics — an eyewash intended to create an illusion of institutional responsiveness while leaving the real allegations untouched. Hence, investigation needs to be wrested from the state machinery and entrusted to CBI, he argued.
