Ludhiana: Bakr-Eid was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in the city. For the people of Muslim community, the day started with offering Eid prayers in mosques. The biggest Eid congregation was witnessed in Jamia Masjid in Field Gunj, where the community members, attired in new clothes, offered prayers. Prayers were also offered by community members in mosques in various areas, including in Field Gunj, Gill Road, BRS Nagar, and Dugri.Addressing the Eid gathering, Shahi Imam, Punjab, Maulana Usman Ludhianvi congratulated the people on Bakr-Eid. He also asked the community members to do charity on the festival and help the poor and the needy. After offering Eid prayers, the community members, including children, adults and elderly, hugged and wished each other.After the traditional prayers, the community members also sacrificed goats and sheep.Muhammad Khalid, a businessman of Division No. 3 area, said, “Apart from offering prayers in mosques, preferably in new clothes, we also sacrifice goats and sheep. We also cook special dishes on the occasion, and sweet dishes like sawaiyaan (vermicelli), etc.”Children were excited on Eid as they dressed in new clothes bought especially for the festival.Nadeem, a teenager from Brown Road area, said that he bought a new kurta pyjama for Eid prayers and also wore jeans and shirt, which he bought specially for the occasion. “It was a great day, and festivity will continue for next two days as this Eid is celebrated for three days,” he added.
