Nagpur: An 18-year-old burglar, Anshul alias Anup Wakade, was nabbed within 30 minutes after he contacted a police punter who posed as mephedrone (MD) peddler to buy drugs from heist money. He had burgled a house in the early hours of February 7 and was arrested soon after.Instead of supplying drugs, the peddler alerted Pachpaoli police. Acting promptly on the tip-off, a rapid-response team apprehended the suspect and recovered stolen gold, silver, cash and vehicles collectively worth 4.80 lakh.

Wakade, a resident of Lashkaribagh, has several cases of house-breaking and two-wheeler theft registered against him across Nagpur. Police said his crimes were often linked to drug addiction.Earlier that morning, two back-to-back burglaries were reported at adjacent properties, with the total value of stolen items amounting to 3.22 lakh. Following the latest break-in, Wakade contacted a MD peddler, who gave him up to cops.The arrest was supervised by senior inspector Baburao Raut and the team was led by sub-inspectors Ranjit Majgaonkar and Dilip Pawar. During his interrogation, the accused guided police to the hidden loot. Police also recovered four stolen vehicles. The recovery also helped solve four separate crime cases registered at Pachpaoli, Tehsil, Nandanvan and Wadi police stations. The entire operation was conducted and supervised by DCP Rahul Madane.
