Chandigarh: Punjab Engineering College (PEC) has submitted an ambitious Rs 250.97crore infrastructure plan to the Chandigarh administration, proposing a major campus expansion over the next five years with projects including an interdisciplinary technology centre, a 2,200-seat auditorium, a modern sports complex and new faculty housing.The 2026-31 roadmap envisages year-wise spending of Rs 24 crore in the current financial year, followed by Rs 93 crore in 2027-28, Rs 93.53 crore in 2028-29, Rs 30.44 crore in 2029-30 and Rs 10 crore in 2030-31. The proposed projects are aimed at strengthening academic, research, residential and student-support infrastructure on the campus.A key component of the plan is the proposed Interdisciplinary Centre for Transformative Technology (ICTT), estimated at Rs 65 crore, which will focus on areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, advanced manufacturing, Industry 4.0, green technologies, agritech, defence technologies and quantum materials.PEC has also sought Rs 62.53 crore for a new Synergy Centre featuring a 2,200-seat auditorium, three seminar halls with a combined capacity of 850 seats and a conference room. The institute said the facility would cater to major events, including convocation ceremonies, PECFEST, orientations and other student activities.Another Rs 30 crore has been proposed for a double-storey air-conditioned gymnasium and activity centre with facilities including badminton courts, table tennis, yoga and physiotherapy units. The largest allocation, Rs 93.44 crore, has been earmarked for faculty and staff housing.Institute officials said several of the projects had been discussed earlier but could not materialise, and have now been incorporated into a fresh infrastructure roadmap prepared after consultations with Chandigarh administration departments.
