Srinagar, Oct 19 : PDP leaders Noor Mohammad Sheikh, former MLA, and Arif Laigroo, former state secretary and constituency in-charge of Habba Kadal, met Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo at the Civil Secretariat here and raised civic issues affecting Shahri-Khaas and adjoining areas, seeking time-bound measures to address public grievances.
In a statement, the leaders said they highlighted persistent drainage problems, the deteriorating condition of roads and lanes, and concerns over the proposed pillar-based flyover at Shalteng. They urged the administration to direct the concerned departments to take concrete steps to resolve the issues and provide relief to residents.
Laigroo said the people of Shahri-Khaas could not be left to suffer due to inadequate drainage and damaged roads. He urged the Chief Secretary to direct the concerned departments to conduct an on-ground inspection and prepare a time-bound action plan for drainage improvements and road repairs.
He stressed the need for accountability, effective implementation and visible results, adding that the genuine grievances of residents must receive priority attention.
“We will continue to raise these issues with the concerned authorities until meaningful steps are taken to provide relief to the people,” Laigroo said.
On the proposed Shalteng flyover, Noor Mohammad Sheikh called for a comprehensive review of the pillar-based design before the project proceeds, citing concerns over its potential impact on traffic movement, local connectivity, businesses and residents.
He urged the administration to undertake a detailed technical assessment of the proposed design and examine alternative options that could ease traffic congestion without creating additional hardships for the local population.
Sheikh also called for meaningful consultation with residents and other stakeholders, emphasising that decisions on major infrastructure projects should take into account the concerns of those directly affected.
He said public interest must remain paramount and that the implications of the proposed flyover should be assessed transparently before a final decision is taken.
The PDP leaders further urged the administration to address drainage bottlenecks and undertake necessary road repairs in Shahri-Khaas within a clearly defined timeframe.
They called for prompt action, better coordination among departments and a responsive approach to local concerns, stressing that residents needed concrete solutions to long-pending civic problems.
