Jaipur: Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee president Govind Singh Dotasra Saturday warned rebel candidates contesting against party nominees, asking them to publicly announce their support for Congress candidates or face disciplinary action.“Our district presidents and observers are reaching out to the rebels and making a last effort to convince them. Such acts will not take them anywhere,” Dotasra said. He added that several rebels were likely to announce their support for Congress candidates in the next two days. “Those who do not listen will be suspended for six years,” he said.Dotasra said the party had also prepared a list of members holding organisational posts who were either contesting against Congress candidates or backing non-Congress nominees. “Action will first be taken against those holding party posts,” he said.Rebels are reportedly in the fray in key cities, including Jaipur, Kota, Jodhpur, Ajmer and Udaipur, posing a challenge to the party’s official candidates. With the withdrawal deadline over, rebels cannot pull out of the contest but can still publicly back the Congress nominee.Congress spokesperson Swarnim Chaturvedi said several rebels had contacted the party in the past few days. “They know that once disciplinary action is taken, they will suffer,” he said.
