Guwahati: A new pavilion at a football academy will keep Zubeen Garg’s passion for the sport alive among Assam’s young players.The Gauhati Town Club (GTC) has named the pavilion at its football academy in Fulung, North Guwahati, the ‘ZG Pavilion’ in tribute to the late singer and musician.Built at the academy’s permanent campus, the pavilion honours Garg’s enduring love for football and his contribution to Assam’s cultural life, GTC officials said.Established in 2010, the GTC Football Academy is a grassroots platform for developing young footballers from across Assam. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma formally inaugurated its permanent campus at Fulung in Aug.The club said the pavilion would be more than academy infrastructure, carrying Garg’s memory among the young players training there.GTC said the ‘ZG Pavilion’ would inspire aspiring footballers while reflecting Garg’s connection with Assam’s sporting and cultural identity.The dedication is part of the club’s effort to preserve the memory of one of Assam’s most influential cultural figures through an institution nurturing the state’s next generation of sporting talent.
