Patna: Taking notice of a PIL filed over a misprinted word in a Hindi rhyme published for Class I students, the Patna high court on Tuesday directed the NCERT to file its reply within four weeks.The PIL concerns a misprint in the popular rhyme “Chanda mama door ke… pue pakae gud ke”, published in NCERT’s Hindi textbook ‘Sarangi’ for Class I students. The petitioner has alleged that the misprinted word has an abusive, objectionable and offensive meaning.A division bench comprising Chief Justice V Kameswar Rao and Justice Sudhir Singh passed the order while hearing a PIL filed by Somitra Shankar. The order came into the public domain on Wednesday.The petitioner has sought judicial intervention for a direction to NCERT to rectify the misprint. He has claimed that despite repeatedly approaching the authorities, no action was taken to correct the error, which, he alleged, was a matter of concern for the teaching and learning environment.The court has sought a response from the respondent concerned on the alleged error and the authorities’ failure to address the petitioner’s requests.The matter will be heard again on Oct 13.
