Patna: Patliputra University (PPU) will conduct examinations for ability enhancement courses (AEC), skill enhancement courses (SEC), and value-added courses (VAC) through an OMR-based system from the next academic session, beginning in April 2026.According to PPU examination controller Manoj Kumar, the decision has been taken in accordance with the guidelines of the National Education Policy-2020, which emphasises skill development, flexibility in learning and modern evaluation methods in higher education.“The move aims to streamline the assessment process and ensure quicker and more transparent evaluation of these courses, which are designed to enhance students’ practical abilities and employability,” he said.Patliputra University has already implemented the four-year degree programme under the choice based credit system (CBCS) in line with the provisions of the new education policy. “The programme has been introduced to meet the evolving academic and professional needs of students in the current educational landscape,” Kumar said. The university administration further stated that it plans to extend the same system to vocational courses in the near future. “The step is expected to align vocational education more closely with the NEP-2020 framework and provide students with improved opportunities for skill-based learning,” he said, adding that adopting OMR-based examinations will make the evaluation process more efficient while maintaining fairness and accuracy in assessing students enrolled in enhancement and value-added courses. In addition, the College of Commerce, Arts and Science is likely to start LLB courses from the next academic session this year. While the state govt has approved the proposal, the university is awaiting final approval from the Bar Council of India, sources said, adding that LLB teaching, which was stopped for the last three years due to a lack of proper infrastructure, is to get approval for 120 seats now.
