Chandigarh: The SSP (traffic and security) has written to the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM), asking shopkeepers to park their vehicles behind their shops during the festive season. He has also advised all market associations in the city to depute their own volunteers to manage traffic in front of markets and assist the police.Besides, traders have been asked not to encroach upon parking lots, pedestrian pathways and cycle tracks in the city.During a meeting with the SSP, CBM representatives offered suggestions for traffic management during the festive season. They sought permission to put up stalls outside their shops and asked the police to restrict vendors from outside the markets from occupying space in public parking lots and pedestrian pathways.Sanjeev Chadha, chairman of CBM, said, “We are not against vendors, but want a systematic way to put up stalls and earn money during the festive season. Since markets get overcrowded when permission is given to vendors to put up stalls outside shops, fights break out between shopkeepers and vendors.”The SSP (traffic and security) has also requested the MC commissioner to provide a list of Enforcement Wing officials to be deployed during the festive season.
