Lucknow: The Vidhan Parishad was adjourned for 15 minutes on Tuesday after members of the Samajwadi Party accused the govt of violating reservation norms in govt recruitments.SP members stormed the well after hearing Leader of the House Keshav Prasad Maurya’s justification on the matter, leading the House to be adjourned for 15 minutes. The matter was raised under Rule 105, with SP’s Ashutosh Sinha alleging that recruitments were not being done transparently, while exams kept getting cancelled due to paper leaks. He gave the example of the recruitment of health education officers, where, against 60 seats that should have been reserved for OBCs, only 20 were advertised, while, against 110 that should have been advertised for the post of veterinary officer, none were advertised. Another SP member Man Singh Yadav said when advertisements for vacancies were repeatedly full of errors, one would start doubting the intentions of the govt. He pointed out that the OBC Commission itself pointed out discrepancies in the teachers’ recruitment. “In fact, the situation is so strange that there was a case wherein one person was interviewed but a different person was recruited. Look at the condition of the 31 state universities where, against reservation of 27%, OBCs account for 6.45% of teachers while 87.09% seats are occupied by general category candidates,” he said. Responding to the charges, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said there were some discrepancies in advertisements, but the govt was committed to ensuring that every reservation category was filled accordingly and that it would not allow any injustice to any group. “When a discrepancy was noticed in the advertisement for lekhpals, I called officials of the personnel department and asked them to correct it. On Dec 30, 2025, the chief secretary issued orders asking all departments to re-assess their requirements and to send a correct break-up of vacancies as per reservation. I can challenge that no wrong advertisement came out after that,” Maurya said. He assured that the recruitment advertisement for PGI doctors, medical education officers, and veterinary officers would also be looked into.
