New Delhi: The Ministry of Education has assigned Dr Meenakshi Goyal, Dean of University Instruction (DUI), Panjab University, Chandigarh, to discharge the responsibilities of the Vice-Chancellor with effect from the forenoon of July 29, 2026, until alternative arrangements are made or further orders are issued.
The move comes a day after the completion of the extended tenure of Prof Renu Vig, who demitted office on July 28. Prof. Vig, Panjab University’s first woman Vice-Chancellor, was appointed in March 2023 for a three-year term and had received a four-month extension earlier this year after her original tenure ended in March 2026.
Dr Goyal, who currently serves as the Dean of University Instruction, will oversee the university’s administration until the Centre appoints a regular Vice-Chancellor. She has been heading the university’s academic affairs as DUI and is responsible for coordinating admissions and academic administration across teaching departments and regional centres.
The interim arrangement comes as the search for a regular Vice-Chancellor remains underway following the end of Prof Vig’s extended tenure. The Ministry’s order states that Dr Goyal will continue to discharge the Vice-Chancellor’s responsibilities until alternative arrangements are made or further orders are issued.
