Krishnagiri: Residents of Marachandiram village near Denkanikottai were in for a surprise when two wild elephants strayed into a local lake, and spent more than three hours bathing and playing. The elephants splashed water with their trunks, collided playfully and stayed in the cool waters, as residents watched from a safe distance. “It was like watching children at play, only grander,” said Lakshmanan, a local. Many others were seen clicking pictures and recording videos of the pachyderms. Pilgrims heading to the nearby Kavi Narasimhar Temple also paused to witness the scene. The elephants retreated into the forest after a while, without disturbing the locals.
