Varanasi: A PAC jawan allegedly attacked a vegetable seller and his wife with an iron rod following a dispute over payment near PAC 34th battalion gate in Bhullanpur on Saturday evening.According to police, the accused, Ashutosh Kumar Singh (28), got into an argument with the couple—Geeta Devi and her husband Radheshyam—who run a roadside vegetable stall. The dispute escalated when the jawan allegedly picked up an iron rod and attacked both of them, leaving them seriously injured. Locals rushed to the spot on hearing the commotion and, enraged by the incident, caught hold of the accused and thrashed him before police arrived. A team from Manduadih police station reached the spot, brought the situation under control and rushed all three injured—both victims and the accused—to the BHU trauma centre for treatment.DCP (Varuna) Pramod Kumar said an FIR was registered in the case and the accused jawan was arrested and sent to jail. During the investigation, police reviewed the service record of the accused with officials of the PAC 34th battalion and found it to be tainted, with previous disciplinary actions including suspension. tnn
