CHENNAI: CPM State Secretary P Shanmugam has strongly criticised chief minister C Joseph Vijay, accusing him of using the Assembly floor for personal mudslinging, self-praise, and political score-settling rather than addressing critical state issues.In a scathing post on X, Shanmugam criticized the chief minister’s reply on the police demand for grants for completely dodging core law-and-order concerns raised by members of the House.The CPM leader took a severe offense at cm Vijay mocking his predecessor MK Stalin over the broken jaw he suffered during his detention under MISA during the Emergency, calling the body-shaming remarks irresponsible and unbecoming of a sitting CM.Shanmugam further criticised Vijay for relying on Enforcement Directorate allegations to target opposition leaders like Arvind Kejriwal and Pinarayi Vijayan, arguing that central agencies are being weaponized as political instruments.He stressed that wasting time in an Assembly funded by the tax money of ordinary citizens on personal attacks and self-praise, rather than public welfare, is completely unacceptable.“Transforming the floor of the Assembly, funded by the hard-earned tax money of the people of Tamil Nadu, into a stage for personal attacks and self-congratulation rather than public welfare is an absolute betrayal of legislative ethics.”
