Jaipur: Ongoing sewer line replacement work in parts of the Walled City has left several narrow lanes dug up, with overflowing drains and waterlogging creating major inconvenience for residents.From Ramganj to Pannigharan ka Rasta near Badi Chaupar, locals said sewer water has entered residential lanes and, in some places, even homes. Residents complained of foul smell and unhygienic conditions in the densely populated localities.People said incomplete sewer work and dug-up stretches worsened the situation, with accumulated wastewater making movement difficult for pedestrians and two-wheelers.The issue became more frustrating during Eid festivities, when families expected cleaner surroundings and better civic arrangements.Mohammad Aslam, a resident of Pannigharan ka Rasta, said people were disappointed with the condition of the area during the festival. “It’s one of our biggest festivals, but people are forced to live with dirty water and foul smell around their homes. Whenever work starts here, it is either delayed or left incomplete,” he said.Shopkeepers and residents in nearby lanes said customers and visitors were also avoiding the area because of overflowing sewage and damaged roads.Former councillor Mohammad Zakariya said the problem was being reported from several parts of the walled city. “With monsoon approaching, incomplete sewer work and poor drainage could lead to severe waterlogging in many areas,” he said.Residents demanded that the pending work be completed quickly before the onset of rains worsens the situation further.
