Patna hosted the ‘Run for Ganga Marathon 2026’ on JP Ganga Path, drawing 500 participants to champion river cleanliness and conservation. Organized by PMC and Sanatani Ganga Foundation, the event saw Vishal Chauhan clinch the marathon title. The initiative aimed to boost public engagement in sanitation, emphasizing environmental protection as a shared duty.

Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Sanatani Ganga Foundation organised the ‘Run for Ganga Marathon 2026’ on the JP Ganga Path on Tuesday to promote cleanliness and river conservation under the Swachh Survekshan 2026 initiative.The event drew 500 runners and skaters for the 4-km course from the JP Ganga Path roundabout to LCT Ghat. The State Bank of India sponsored the prize pool of Rs50,000 distributed among the top three marathon finishers.Digha MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia, mayor Sita Sahu and deputy mayor Reshmi Chandravanshi flagged off the event, where Vishal Chauhan won the marathon while Saanvi Chauhan took first place in the skating category.Ajit Kumar and Nutan Kashyap secured the second and third positions in the distance run, while Mayan Milind and Aarav Kumar followed Saanvi Chauhan in the skating rankings.Winners received cash awards of Rs25,000, Rs15,000 and Rs10,000, respectively, with skaters receiving mementoes for their performance.On this occasion, Digha MLA said environment protection is a collective responsibility of all citizens. The mayor highlighted the PMC’s commitment to maintain the river as a foundational element of the city’s culture, while the deputy mayor added that the primary goal of the marathon was to increase public participation in local sanitation efforts.Members of the municipal standing committee, ward councillors and city officials attended the competition.
