Bhubaneswar: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Odisha will start on Saturday. As many as 45,255 booth-level officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits to distribute and collect enumeration forms from electors for correcting and updating the rolls, state chief electoral officer (CEO) R S Gopalan said, while addressing a press conference here on Friday. July 1, 2026, has been fixed as the qualifying date for SIR.Printing and preparatory work were completed on Friday, while training of the BLOs was also completed in time, Gopalan said. The BLOs will conduct door-to-door visits from May 30 to June 28, and provide two enumeration forms to each elector. These forms will require details of the elector’s personal information, family members and data related to the 2002 voter list. The BLOs will verify the information and correct minor errors, said Gopalan. The CEO has directed the BLOs to remain vigilant so that no eligible Indian voter is left out, and no ineligible person is included in the electoral roll. Reorganisation of polling stations will be completed by June 28, and the final electoral roll will be published on Sept 6, Gopalan said.During the preparatory phase, out of the total electors, around 3.16 crore, that is 94.61%, have been mapped with the voter list of the last SIR published in 2002. “The electors who could not be mapped during the pre-SIR phase will also be able to get mapped during the revision upon submission of appropriate information,” said the CEO.To implement the SIR with complete transparency and prior participation of political parties, the CEO has requested them to appoint booth-level agents (BLA) for each polling station. So far, a total of 33,026 people have been appointed by recognised political parties in the state, he said.In the wake of the heatwave conditions in the state, the CEO has issued special guidelines for the protection of the BLOs, engaged in the SIR field work, which has been directed to be carried out from 6 am to 11 am and from 4 pm to 7 pm.The CEO has met with SPs and electoral registration officers across all districts to ensure the BLOs receive immediate support if they encounter any issues during duty hours.
