Patna: Work on the waste-to-energy project at Ramachak Bairiya has progressed, with more than 30 acres of land cleared of legacy waste and around 1.5 lakh cubic metres of waste processed so far, according to officials.Patna municipal commissioner Yashpal Meena reviewed the project on Tuesday and directed the agencies concerned to expedite the remaining work. He asked them to complete legacy waste treatment by the end of Nov to make the land available for the next phase of construction.PMC has assigned private agency NACOF the disposal of 6 lakh cubic metres of legacy waste and clearance of 22 acres. It has completed the allotted waste disposal and cleared 21 acres. Another firm, ECOSTAN, is undertaking bioremediation of 8 lakh cubic metres of waste spread over 14 acres and has processed around 1.5 lakh cubic metres. Pathya, yet another private agency, is handling 5 lakh cubic metres of waste spread over seven acres, with around 50% of the work completed.The project will include a 15MW waste-to-energy plant, a 100-tonne-per-day biomethanation plant, three 250-tonne-per-day MRF-cum-RDF centres, a 50-tonne-per-day MRF, a 700-tonne-per-day composting plant and a 325-tonne-per-day engineered sanitary landfill.The facility will handle waste generated by 13 urban local bodies in the Patna cluster. Estimated to cost Rs 514.59 crore, the project is targeted for completion within two years and six months. The selected agency will operate and maintain the facility for 20 years after construction.
