Bengaluru: More than 2,000 yoga practitioners, instructors, students and volunteers are expected to gather at the grand steps of Vidhana Soudha Sunday morning as Karnataka marks the 12th International Day of Yoga with a statewide celebration on the theme of ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing.’The event will feature a mass yoga demonstration, with governor Thawarchand Gehlot, chief minister DK Shivakumar, and other ministers and MLAs participating. Cinema actors Sudharani, Vasishta N Simha and Hariprriya are also expected to take part in the celebrations.The Ayush department has also planned a series of activities across Karnataka to promote yoga as a year-round public health movement under initiatives such as ‘Nitya Yoga’ and ‘Yoga for Everyone.’As part of the celebrations, yoga camps, workshops, seminars, school competitions and conferences on themes including healthy ageing, cancer and cardiovascular health are being organised across the state. The govt expects more than 10 lakh people to participate in yoga day programmes statewide Sunday, while over 25,000 students and 50,000 citizens have already taken part in outreach activities and online yoga competitions.
