Indore: The admission process under the Right to Education Act for the 2026–27 academic session will begin earlier this year, with online applications opening on March 13. The process will cover more than 1,700 private schools across the city that registered to admit children under the RTE Act. Last year, the school education department began the process in May, leading to overall delays in the admission cycle, as the schools already began the new academic session in April.
According to the schedule released by the state school education department, the number of seats available in recognised private schools will be declared on the official portal by March 13. Parents will be able to submit online applications between March 13 and 28. During the same period, applicants will also be allowed to make corrections to their forms, if required.
This year, a total of 1,729 private schools in Indore are listed for admissions under the RTE provisions. More than 6000 seats are reserved for eligible students at the entry level in these institutions. Details of the reserved seats will be uploaded on the official RTE portal to help parents review school-wise availability before applying.
District project coordinator Sanjay Mishra said that the online system was designed to ensure transparency in the process. “Parents can apply online and the documents will be verified before the seat allotment,” he said.
Admissions under the RTE Act are provided without charging school fees, as the state govt reimburses the expenses for each admitted student. The scheme seeks to widen access to quality schooling and promote inclusive education by enabling children from economically weaker backgrounds to study in recognised private institutions.
Data from recent years shows a steady response to the initiative in Indore. In 2024, a total of 3,924 students secured admission under RTE against 4,788 available seats. In 2025, more than 5,000 students received admissions out of over 6,800 seats offered by private schools in the district.
The RTE Act mandates that private unaided schools reserve 25 percent of seats in entry-level classes for eligible children under the scheme.
