Namakkal: As many as 10 people were injured after a tourist van collided with a truck on the Salem–Namakkal national highway near Rasipuram in Namakkal district during the early hours of Sunday.Police said the van was carrying more than 13 devotees from Salem who had travelled to the Tiruchendur temple. The accident took place when they were returning home on Saturday night.“When the van approached Andagalur Gate near Rasipuram around 4am on Sunday, the truck in front of it braked suddenly. The van driver K Aravind, 43, from Salem, failed to notice in time and crashed into the rear of the truck,” said a police officer from Rasipuram station. He added that over 10 passengers suffered injuries in the impact of the collision, though all escaped with minor wounds.Locals rescued the injured and sent them to Rasipuram Government Hospital for first aid. They were later shifted to the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital for further treatment, where their conditions are said to be stable.Meanwhile, Rasipuram police have registered a case and are investigating further.
