Prayagraj: Recruitment for health education officers under the state’s family welfare directorate has generated an overwhelming response from aspirants, with over 1.2 lakh candidates applying for 221 posts advertised by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC).This translates into an average of about 565 candidates competing for each post. The commission invited online applications from Dec 22 to Jan 22 for the recruitment that was last held in 2005. According to information provided by the commission under the Right to Information Act to an applicant, Ashwani Shukla, as many as 1,24,806 candidates have applied for the posts. The large number of applications reflected both the scarcity of similar opportunities and the attractiveness of the post. Applicants must be a postgraduate in sociology or any social science subject. Preferential qualifications include experience in extension work, training under family welfare programmes, a minimum of two years of service in the Territorial Army, or possession of an NCC ‘B’ certificate. According to the examination calendar released by the commission, the screening test is scheduled on Oct 4. However, aspirants expressed concern over the delay in the release of the detailed syllabus and examination scheme. An aspirant said no official information regarding the syllabus or pattern has been issued so far, hampering their preparations. They urged the commission to upload a detailed and updated syllabus on its official website at the earliest.
