PATNA: A 25-year-old man, described by police as a “psycho killer” who posed as a policeman, has been arrested for allegedly pushing a worker to death from a moving train after he refused to pay money, Danapur Railway DSP Kanchan Raj said on Wednesday.The accused, Rohit Tiwari, a resident of Bariswan village in Bhojpur district, was arrested from Mohansarai, between Buxar and Varanasi, within 24 hours of the case being registered, following raids based on technical and human intelligence.According to police, Tiwari posed as a policeman, RPF or STF personnel and targeted workers and minors travelling in the disabled compartment of passenger trains on the Ara-DDU railway section. He allegedly demanded money from passengers as a fine, citing ticket checking or a ban on smoking inside moving trains.Police said those who refused to pay were allegedly threatened, harassed or assaulted. During one such incident on September 19, Tiwari allegedly pushed Nitin Kumar, 21, from a moving train while he was returning home after working in Hyderabad.Nitin’s father, Mukesh Rai, lodged a complaint after his son went missing. Buxar Railway Police subsequently registered a case on September 21 under Sections 140(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).“An SIT was formed and the accused was traced through technical and human intelligence. He was arrested within 24 hours, and his disclosure led to the recovery of the body,” Railway DSP Kanchan Raj said.Based on Tiwari’s disclosure, police recovered a body from the railway tracks between Ara and Jagjivan Halt. Nitin’s father later identified it as his son’s body.Police said Tiwari had a criminal record and had earlier spent 25 months in judicial custody in connection with a Buxar railway case. He was released on bail around two months ago.Police also recovered a brown purse belonging to another deceased person, Kailash Kumar, from Tiwari. The purse contained ATM cards, a PAN card, disability card, voter ID and other documents.Police said a speedy trial would be initiated against the accused.
