Ludhiana: Residents are experiencing an unseasonably warm Feb as temperatures in the city continue to hover several degrees above the seasonal average. Morning mist is giving way to mid-afternoon heat as youngsters take to the parks, embracing a premature spring that shows no signs of cooling down this week.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded both day and night temperatures above normal levels on Saturday, with clear skies and bright sunshine intensifying the heat. While the morning began with a light mist — reducing visibility to 800m at 8.30am — the haze quickly gave way to a warm afternoon. The minimum (night) temperature was recorded at 12.2°C, which is 3.3°C above the normal range, despite being a slight 0.4°C dip from the previous night.Forecast: Clear skies and rising heatThe Met’s six-day forecast predicts “mainly clear skies” for Ludhiana, suggesting the warm trend will persist. Forecasters expect daytime peaks and nighttime lows. Day temperatures are projected to climb to 29°C by Thursday, while mercury levels at night will likely hold at 12°C through Thursday before a slight dip to 11°C on Friday.Mixed reactions from residentsThe shift in weather has forced residents to adjust their daily routines and wardrobes. Satvinder Singh, a local resident, noted that the rapid increase in heat feels like a precursor to a harsh summer. “I mostly wear a shirt during the day now,” he said, “but I still have to put on a sweatshirt in the evening and at night.”For others, the sunshine is a welcome change. Samarvir, an 8-year-old from the Dugri area, said the warmer weather had made outdoor activities more enjoyable. “It feels good to play cricket during the day,” he said. “I go to the park in the evening with friends because it is no longer cold.”
