Gurgaon: India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall at isolated locations across Haryana from July 22 to 24. For July 21, the weather department had issued an orange alert. These alerts come as the region braces for an active monsoon phase, with intense showers expected in several districts over the coming days.According to the latest IMD forecast, districts including Chandigarh, Panchkula, Ambala, and Yamunanagar are expected to witness moderate to heavy rainfall, with some areas likely to receive very heavy downpours. This could lead to temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas and could also impact traffic movement, the forecast further warned.“Moreover, moderate rainfall is likely in Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, and Panipat, bringing much-needed relief from the prevailing humidity. This, too, poses a risk of localised flooding. In Gurgaon, along with Sonipat, Jind, Rewari, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Faridabad, Mewat, and Palwal, IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall at a few places,” said an IMD official. The weather department has urged residents and authorities in these regions to remain vigilant, prepare for potential waterlogging and minor disruption in services, and monitor official advisories closely. This fresh bout of monsoon activity is likely to bring a noticeable drop in temperatures and an improved air quality, but residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel.Meanwhile, the city saw a maximum temperature of 31.8 degrees Celsius on Monday, down from the previous day’s 33.5 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was recorded at 26.7 degrees Celsius, higher than Sunday’s 26 degrees Celsius.
