During a heated session on Tuesday, the Bihar Legislative Council turned chaotic as opposition members were forcefully escorted out and given a day-long suspension. The turmoil erupted over demands for apologies concerning perceived disrespect shown to former Chief Minister Rabri Devi. As tensions escalated with confrontations and loud slogans, the Chairperson intervened, resulting in the eviction of several opposition MLCs.

Patna: Opposition members were marshalled out of the Bihar legislative council on Tuesday and suspended for one day on the orders of Chairperson Awadhesh Narain Singh.As soon as proceedings began, opposition members demanded apologies from CM Nitish Kumar and an MLC, alleging disrespect towards former chief minister and leader of opposition Rabri Devi.

RJD chief whip in the Upper House Abdul Bari Siddiqui and other members stood in their places, expressing concern over the behaviour directed at Rabri. They urged the chairperson to take action. Singh said a committee had been formed and the matter would be investigated.RJD MLC Sunil Kumar Singh raised a similar issue, after which members entered the well of the House and began sloganeering. The situation escalated further when opposition MLC Sunil Singh and cabinet minister Ashok Chaudhary confronted each other with both alleging the use of unparliamentary language.Chairperson Singh reprimanded opposition members for disrupting proceedings. “Anyone who tries to disturb the House, action will be taken. No one is allowed to speak during the question hour,” he said.He then instructed marshals to evict opposition members and suspended them from the day’s business.The suspended MLCs included Rabri, Siddiqui, Sunil Singh, Qari Sohaib, Ajay Kumar Singh and Munni Devi of the RJD, and Shashi Yadav of CPI(ML) Liberation.After the opposition members were removed, ruling party MLCs, including Dilip Jaiswal, Neeraj Kumar, Khalid Anwar and Lallan Sarraf, urged the chairperson to take action against opposition members, including Sunil Singh, for their conduct and alleged disrespect towards the Chair.
