Mapusa: Locals from Pernem united at a public meeting held on Sunday to demand the commissioning of the new Tuem hospital by Jan 26.A public meeting under the banner of the ‘Tuem Hospital Action Committee’ was held from which two key demands emerged. People want Tuem hospital to be linked to GMC, and jobs at the hospital to be given to locals from Pernem taluka.“We demand that the hospital begin full-fledged operations by Jan 26, 2026. Eighty per cent of the jobs should be reserved for deserving Pernem locals,” said committee convener Devendra Prabhudessai. The long-delayed construction of the 100-bed Tuem hospital was completed in Sep 2021, but it is yet to be commissioned, leading to public dissatisfaction and continued reliance on distant medical facilities.
