Bengaluru: A govt PU college student has featured in the top 10 — Basavaraj Avati from Vijayapura secured rank 4 in veterinary sciences. All the other rank holders across the seven streams are from private colleges.As per data from Karnataka Examinations Authority, only 12 engineering students from govt PU colleges featured in the top 1,000. Of this, five are from Bengaluru Urban, two each from Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada, and one each from Chitradurga, Kalaburgi and Mysuru.Additionally, BNYS (15), agriculture (13), pharma (11) and 10 each in the top 1000 for veterinary and nursing are also from govt PU colleges.In the top 5,000, the numbers of govt college students ranged from 39 in veterinary sciences to 53 in engineering. In the top 10,000, 108 students featured.Among rural students, only 79 students are in the top 1,000 ranks, 499 in the top 5,000 and 1,292 in the top 10,000. And just nine in the top 1,000 ranks are from Kannada medium. The numbers are 75 in the top 5,000 and 226 in the top 10,000.The department of PU education arranged for online CET coaching for students of govt PU colleges.Retest over janivara rowControversy had erupted over three students being asked to remove janivara to appear for CET.While KEA has offered a retest in one paper they were stopped from taking, the boys demanded that retest be held for all papers. This was turned down by KEA. The marks were generated based on the average of the papers they had written.
