T’puram: A 30-year-old scooter rider was killed and an autorickshaw driver seriously injured after their vehicles collided at Puthanthope Anakapillai junction on the coastal road early on Monday. The deceased was Shon of Arattumukku at Marianad. The accident occurred around 4.30am when Shon was travelling towards Thumba and the autorickshaw was proceeding towards Perumathura. Locals and police rushed them to Thiruvananthapuram Govt Medical College Hospital (MCH). Shon, however, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. The autorickshaw driver, Shajukumar, 40, of Thuruvikkal at Akkulam, sustained serious injuries and is also undergoing treatment at MCH. Police said the men may have fallen asleep while driving, which could have led to the collision. However, the exact circumstances of the accident are yet to be established. Police registered a case under the provisions pertaining to unnatural death. The body was subjected to postmortem at MCH and later handed over to Shon’s relatives. Police are examining the circumstances leading to the collision and collecting details from witnesses as part of the investigation.
