Nagpur: A one-of-its-kind Jain temple for followers of both Digambar and Shwetambar sects within one integrated complex is set to take shape in Nagpur, with a strong focus on traditional architecture and community-centric design. The temple will be developed at a township in Ganeshpeth. The Bhoomi Puja for the temple was performed on Sunday in the presence of Jain seer Acharya Suvirsagar Maharaj, with a large turnout of devotees and members of the Jain community.Planned over an area of nearly 12,000 sq ft, the temple is being envisioned as a stone-built architectural structure rooted in traditional Jain design. Notably, the construction will be carried out without the use of iron, adhering to age-old temple-building techniques that emphasise durability and spiritual sanctity, said senior functionary, Atul Kotecha. The complex will house two distinct sanctums (garbhagriha), one each for the Digambar and Shwetambar sects, enabling followers of both traditions to worship within the same area while maintaining their individual rituals and practices. In addition to the main temple structure, the project will include a dedicated prayer hall (Sthanak) and provisions for a Sant Niwas (residence for seers).Among those present during the bhoomi puja were minister of state for home Pankaj Bhoyar, former MP Ajay Sancheti, MLC Parinay Fuke, and former mayor Dayashankar Tiwari, along with several industrialists, developers, and community members.During the ceremony, a detailed model of the proposed temple was unveiled, offering a glimpse into its architectural layout and design elements.Addressing the devotees, Acharya Suvirsagar Maharaj spoke about India’s spiritual significance, stating that while unrest is visible in many parts of the world, the country continues to reflect peace and contentment due to its deep-rooted traditions and the blessings of saints. Sancheti described the project as a step towards greater cohesion within the Jain community. Messages from other spiritual leaders, including Acharya Prashampati Vijay Maharaj, were also shared during the event.
