Bengaluru: Ola Electric is expanding its battery business beyond electric vehicles with a range of energy storage products for homes, businesses and utility-scale projects. The move is aimed at creating wider demand for cells produced at its Gigafactory as its core electric two-wheeler business works to rebuild volumes. The company on Saturday unveiled three products: Shakti Gen2 for homes, Shakti Rack for commercial and industrial users, and Mahashakti for large energy projects. The portfolio ranges from a 4.6-kWh home battery to a 6.26-MWh containerised storage system.Battery energy storage systems store electricity drawn from the grid or renewable sources such as solar power. The electricity can be used later during outages, periods of high demand or when power tariffs are higher.Shakti Gen2 will be available in 4.6-kWh and 9.2-kWh variants, delivering 3 kW and 6 kW of power, respectively. The systems can be controlled through Ola’s app and connected to solar panels through a separate charge controller. Introductory prices start at Rs 99,999, with deliveries scheduled for Nov.For businesses, the Shakti AC Rack combines 73 kWh of storage with a three-phase inverter offering up to 50 kW of power. A separate DC version will offer between 38 kWh and 77 kWh per rack. It is designed for infrastructure such as telecom installations, where equipment runs directly on DC power. The Mahashakti range targets larger users. A single Mahashakti Rack will offer 257 kWh of storage and more than 125 kW of power. Its utility-scale container will store 6.26 MWh and support power output of up to 2.5 MW. Ola is targeting factories, warehouses, commercial buildings, data centres and grid-scale renewable energy projects. The commercial and utility products are expected to be available from March 2027.Ola said the portfolio will use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell technology and draw on its in-house capabilities across cells, battery packs and storage systems. The launch expands its original Shakti home battery range, introduced in Oct 2025 using Ola’s 4680 Bharat Cells. The company has positioned energy storage as a new revenue stream that can improve utilisation at its cell factory. It said in May that the Shakti range had generated more than 50,000 customer leads.
