Rourkela: Odias living in Zambia, southern Africa, under the banner of Odia Association of Zambia (OAZ), represented the state of Odisha by showcasing its vibrant dance, culture, heritage and traditions at Mahotsav-2026 in Lusaka, Zambia, on Saturday. The event brought together nearly 12 Indian state associations, celebrating India’s rich cultural diversity through traditional dance, music, cuisine and heritage.Some Odias, including women, presented the Lanjia Saura folk dance, which received great appreciation from the audience. Visitors learned about Odisha’s rich heritage, including the Jagannath Temple, the state’s unique traditions and its renowned cuisine.Odisha food stall in Mahotsav-2026 attracted large crowds with delicacies such as mati handi mutton, chakuli pitha, badia dalma, mitha bhata (kanika), pakhala bhata and rasagola. Odia Association of Zambia announced that the income generated from the food stall will be contributed towards charitable activities.The event was graced by the chief guest, Lillian S Bwalya, who is the permanent secretary of commerce and trade, with guests from both Indian and Zambian communities. “Mahotsav-2026 served as a wonderful platform to strengthen cultural bonds, promote India’s diverse heritage, and showcase the rich traditions of our Odisha state to the wider community in Zambia,” said Debadattta Mohanty, OAZ president.
