Nagpur: Nagpur University has constituted a task force to assist students from drought-hit areas and address difficulties they may face in continuing their education.The task force will coordinate with colleges to ensure that eligible students receive the benefits of measures announced by the state govt.Director of Board of Examinations and Evaluation, Anup Palsokar, will head the task force. Director of Student Development Department, Vijay Tangade, and NSS director Sopanadev Pise are members, while deputy registrar Motiram Tadas of Examinations and Evaluation department will serve as coordinator/contact officer.Registrar Vijay Khandal has appealed to colleges in drought-hit talukas to extend necessary cooperation to the university-level task force and ensure that eligible students receive the prescribed concessions.The move follows directions from higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil to establish task forces at university level to provide assistance to students from drought-hit talukas. The NU task force was constituted on instructions from higher education director Shailendra Devalankar.As per a Sept 30, 2026, letter issued by the higher and technical education department, principals of colleges in drought-hit talukas have been instructed not to collect examination fees from students eligible for the concession. Their applications are to be forwarded to the university after being authenticated with the certificate prescribed under the relevant govt resolution.The state has declared drought-like conditions in 265 talukas across 34 districts following deficient rainfall attributed in the release to the impact of El Nino. The higher and technical education department has been implementing various measures to provide relief to students from affected areas.
