Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday stayed the NOC granted by NKDA to New Town CC Block Residents’ Welfare Association for conducting Durga Puja this year, while directing the estate manager to reconsider the representations by both the association and New Town CC Block Puja Samity, which has been organising Durga Puja since 2019.The samity moved a single bench of Justice Krishna Rao challenging NKDA decision to grant NOC to the residents’ association while sitting tight on their application, made in July. The lower court had passed an ad-interim injunction restraining the welfare association from collecting donations. Justice Rao told the NKDA that if they have two groups approaching to organise puja then hearing should have been given to both, which was not done in the case of the Samity. The pandal work there had just started by the Samity there. They accused the residents’ association for not letting them carry on the work.
