Noida: Noida Authority has cancelled the allotments of 1,153 vendors for failing to pay rent for spaces in designated vending zones. The Authority allotted spaces to around 4,700 vendors across nearly 100 locations about five years ago. Vendors are required to pay a monthly rent of Rs 1,200, Rs 1,800 or Rs 2,400, depending on the location.According to a Noida official, the Authority has offered a six-month window to clear dues, after which allotments will be reinstated for those who make the payment. If rent goes unpaid, the allotment will be cancelled permanently.Noida’s vending zones are part of the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, aimed at regulating informal street trade. Its key objective is to organise street vending by demarcating specific zones, issuing licences and declaring certain areas as no-hawking zones. The Act also mandates registration of vendors and renewal of licences, ensuring accountability and regulation. For vendors, it provides legal recognition, secure livelihoods and access to basic facilities, and no eviction risks. For the city, it helps reduce encroachment on roads and footpaths, improves traffic flow and enhances pedestrian safety, officials said.In Noida, vending zones are located in sectors 16A, 37, 50, 51, 62, 71, 88, 93, 125, 137, among other locations.Last month, Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) also launched a scheme to allot 673 designated vending spaces under its street vendor policy. The initiative is expected to bring order to unregulated vending while ensuring livelihood security for hawkers, officials added.
