Kolkata: Several Left trade unions, women’s organisations, tribal outfits and ultra-Left groups who had called for ‘No Vote To BJP’ in the 2021 assembly polls have now expanded their slogan to “No vote to BJP. No vote to Trinamool.”The groups held a convention in Kolkata on Tuesday to mobilise public opinion against both BJP and Trinamool ahead of the assembly elections. The mass organisations, earlier part of the “Abhaya movement”, have come together under “Sangrami Ganamancha”, an umbrella platform.
In a draft resolution, the organisations stated: “RSS and BJP are much more dangerous than parties like Congress and Trinamool. But Trinamool is now paving the way for the BJP in the state due to its undemocratic and autocratic rule.”Kushal Debnath, who was part of the “No Vote To BJP” campaign in 2021, said, “The movement during the RG Kar rape and murder showed that the binary created by BJP and Trinamool has to end. This forum is anti-right wing, democratic and progressive. This forum will build its own political identity in Bengal in the near future.”“Trinamool built the Jagannath temple in response to the BJP’s Ram Mandir. Both the central and state govt are spending huge amounts to appease religious fundamentalists. This, in turn, helps the RSS to strengthen its agenda. Trinamool’s autocratic rule actually helped the BJP to gain ground in Bengal,” Debnath said.
