KALYAN: Kalyan Loksabha MP Dr Shrikant Shinde on Sunday pulled up contractors executing civic projects in Dombivli, directing them to use high-quality materials and warning that substandard work would not be tolerated.Shinde was speaking after inspecting several ongoing development projects in Dombivli, including the Savitribai Phule auditorium, Sant Savlaram Maharaj Sports Complex, Cancer hospital and Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari auditorium.Earlier, he had attended a public grievance redressal programme at Jondhale College, where hundreds of residents raised civic and development-related issues.During the Janata Darbar, Shinde reviewed complaints in the presence of the KDMC Mayor Harshali Chaudhari and civic officials and directed the concerned departments to take immediate action on several issues.At the Savitribai Phule auditorium, Shinde reviewed the progress of the project and sought details about the stage, seating arrangements and other facilities.The civic administration is targeting completion by October or early November. He also directed officials to prepare a detailed plan within 10 days for setting up an art gallery at the venue.Inspecting the Sant Savlaram Maharaj Sports Complex, Shinde said the facility is expected to be among the country’s largest sports complexes and set a target of completing the project by 2027.He also reviewed the Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari auditorium in Dombivli West and the Cancer hospital.Officials were directed to expedite work with the aim of starting a cancer and multi-speciality hospital at the latter facility by December 2027.Shinde said efforts were also being accelerated for redevelopment of the 500-bed Shastri Nagar and Rukminibai hospitals and for establishing a medical college for Kalyan-Dombivli.Expressing displeasure over the quality of some development works।at Savitrbai Phule auditorium, Shinde told contractors that projects should not have the appearance of routine government construction.“Make the work grand, but ensure quality. It should not look like government work. It should look like private work. From marble to other materials, everything must be of high quality. Substandard work will not be tolerated,” he said.He also instructed civic officials to closely monitor the quality and progress of projects and ensure that contractors adhere to the prescribed standards.
