Ahmedabad: Govt and grant-in-aid secondary and higher secondary schools in Ahmedabad must complete fresh and renewal applications for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) on the National Scholarship Portal by Aug 31. DEOs (East and West) have warned that if an eligible student is deprived of the scholarship due to negligence or pending action by the school, the principal concerned will be held responsible.Students Classes 9 to 12 who have secured merit positions in the NMMS examination conducted by State Examination Board and meet the eligibility criteria receive a scholarship of Rs 12,000 annually from Govt of India. They are required to submit applications on the National Scholarship Portal every year.As per DEO’s circular, all eligible students newly admitted to Class 9 must make fresh applications. Those in Classes 10 to 12 must complete renewal applications by Aug 31. Facial authentication is mandatory. Schools have also been instructed to verify eligible NMMS students transferred from other schools or districts and complete their applications.A special guidance camp on the online process will be held on Tuesday at HA Patel School in Sabarmati from 10.30am to 2 pm. Principals or staff members familiar with NMMS procedures have been instructed to attend with supporting documents.The DEO’s office has also formed teams of expert teachers and technical personnel in the East and West zones to provide on-the-spot assistance to schools and ensure that all eligible students receive the scholarship.
