Nagpur: After sealing a garment showroom in Mahal for violation of sanctioned plans, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is set to launch a month-long crackdown on illegal constructions, unauthorised use of buildings and fire-safety violations across all 10 zones from Wednesday, with each zone tasked with identifying and acting against 10 dangerous establishments. The drive, to be conducted from Aug 12 to Sept 8, will focus on malls and commercial complexes, hospitals, showrooms, godowns, temporary sheds and pandals, tuition classes, bars and restaurants and buildings being used in violation of sanctioned plans.Mayor Neeta Thakre, who reviewed the enforcement strategy on Tuesday, directed civic officials to ensure coordinated and time-bound action against establishments posing safety risks. Instead of departments conducting separate drives, joint teams comprising the fire and emergency services department, zone offices, town planning department, enforcement department, nuisance detection squads and police will take action. The town planning department has been asked to provide updated zone-wise lists of sanctioned building permissions and actual usage. Officials have been directed to initiate immediate legal action wherever the actual use or construction is found to be contrary to the approved plan. Each of the 10 zones will have to submit details of 10 selected cases, including the establishment’s name, owner, sanctioned and actual construction, nature of violation, fire-safety status, photographs before and during action, notices issued and sealing or other enforcement measures taken.
