Daltonganj: National Medical Commission (NMC) has fixed Sept 8 as the start of the 2026-27 undergraduate medical session, according to the NEET-UG counselling schedule.Medinirai Medical College and Hospital at Pokhraha, 7 km from Daltonganj, has conditional approval for 100 MBBS seats. It was given 45 days to address deficiencies in infrastructure, faculty, research and clinical facilities. The deadline expired on Aug 6.The schedule includes three counselling rounds for all-India and state quotas, followed by a stray-vacancy round from Sept 28. At Medinirai, 15% of seats are under the all-India quota, while the Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board handles the remaining 85%.Principal Dr Jakka Srinivas Rao said the college admitted 99 students in 2025 and hoped to fill all 100 seats this year.Rao said the state govt had appointed two nodal officers to verify certificates — one for online scrutiny and another for offline checks.Sources said residence, caste, income, disability and academic certificates would be examined. Anomalies detected in 2025 had prevented wrongful admissions to govt medical colleges.Candidates claiming hearing disability must establish at least 40% hearing loss through medical-board tests. Documents of Medinirai’s 99 students from the 2025 batch have been sent to CID for verification.
