During the meeting, several MLAs urged Nitish Kumar to rethink his decision. However, the CM, in his short speech, said that the MLAs shouldn’t oppose his decision. He is also learnt to have assured them that he will look after the party and development work in Bihar just as he did as the CM.
JDU working president Sanjay Jha and Union minister Lalan Singh during the meet said that party workers have been demanding that Nishant should join active politics and subsequently all the leaders present raised their hands to support Nishant Kumar. “We told Nitish Kumar that we are sad that he has taken such a decision. But he is our party leader and we are completely behind him. It was also decided that Nishant will join active politics and will take the membership of the party on Sunday. Our working president Sanjay Jha also announced that Nishant will take a tour of the entire state after joining politics. This is good news for party workers and people of Bihar who have reposed faith in the leadership of Nitish Kumar,” JDU spokesperson Neeraj Kumar told ET.
JDU leaders, however, didn’t reveal the kind of responsibility Nishant is going to take after joining the party.
Sources in the JDU told ET that Nishant will be appointed deputy CM to take forward the legacy of his father. In the coming days, senior JDU leaders will work towards establishing Nishant as a face of the party to send out a message to the grieving supporters.
The discussion on government formation is yet to take place among the NDA partners.
