In a heart-wrenching incident in Gumla, a tragic accident involving a speeding autorickshaw en route to school resulted in the death of nine-year-old Akansha Kumari and left seven-year-old Annu Kerketta with critical injuries. The driver lost control near Badatoli village, leading to the devastating overturning of the vehicle.

Gumla: A nine-year-old girl was killed and another seven-year-old was critically injured when the autorickshaw taking them to school overturned under Basia police station limits of the district on Wednesday.The deceased Akansha Kumari, a native of Maharajganj village, was staying at her maternal uncle’s home with her mother Sushma Devi in Gangdagaon village under Basia police station limits. The injured student was identified as Annu Kerketta. The incident took place near Badatoli village. There were nine students in the autorickshaw when the incident took place.Eyewitnesses told the police that the three-wheeler was speeding when its driver lost control. The vehicle eventually overturned. Akansha’s body was taken to Gumla sadar hospital for postmortem examination while Annu was admitted to Basia referral hospital for treatment.Krishna Kumar, the officer-in-charge of Basia police station, said, “An FIR has been filed against the driver, and the vehicle has been seized. The driver claimed he was feeling dizzy just before the accident.”Akansha had told her mother that she did not want to go to school as her shoes were torn.
