Gurgaon: Nine persons were arrested after a mob of over 50 people allegedly vandalised a house and attacked police personnel following the death of a 17-year-old Class 10 student at a classmate’s house in Faridabad on Thursday.An FIR has been registered against unidentified people. Two cops were left injured in the incident.The victim, Arjun, was found hanging inside a boutique shop at the house in Shiv Shakti Enclave, Mavai. While his family has alleged that he was murdered and then hanged, the classmate’s family has claimed that he died by suicide after entering their house. The cause and circumstances of death are yet to be established, and police are awaiting the postmortem findings.According to a police officer, “The girl’s family alleged that Arjun had been pursuing their daughter and that an earlier complaint had been made to both the family and the school in Sept.”The officer said Arjun’s family members had been called to the school, where they apologised and assured that the incident would not recur.“On Thursday, he again came to their house when only the minor girl, her 70-year-old grandmother and four-year-old brother were present. The family said he was asked to leave but entered through another door opening towards the lane and hanged himself inside their boutique shop,” the officer said, recalling what the family said.After news of Arjun’s death spread, his family members and other people gathered at the house, alleging murder. Police said the crowd vandalised the property, broke doors and gates, threw household articles outside and assaulted personnel who reached the spot. “Two policemen were injured in the stone-pelting and violence, following which additional force was deployed,” a senior officer said.Arjun’s mother, Pushpa, alleged that her son had been called to the house and killed. “They called my boy from the godown and hanged him. They did not even let me see him. I want justice for my son,” she said.His father, Bhushan Chaudhary, also alleged that Arjun had been murdered. He claimed the girl’s mother had called his son to the house and said the two teenagers were in a relationship. These allegations have not been established.A case has been registered at Kheri Pul police station against the unidentified individuals under sections 191(3) (rioting while armed with a deadly weapon), 190 (unlawful assembly), 221 (obstructing a public servant), 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from duty), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging their duty), 309(4) (robbery), 309(6) (voluntarily causing hurt during robbery), 331(5) (house-trespass), 109(1) (attempt to murder) and 324(6) (mischief and damage to property) of BNS. The police officer said nine persons had been arrested on the girl’s father’s complaint over the vandalism. He added that Arjun’s family suspected murder and that the postmortem would be crucial in determining further action.“If the postmortem indicates that he was killed before being hanged, we will register a case under the relevant murder provision and investigate it,” the officer said.Police said the investigation was continuing and the postmortem findings would help establish the circumstances of Arjun’s death.
