Hyderabad: The Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) on Friday dismissed allegations circulating on social media about an alleged “kidney racket” at the institute, calling them false propaganda aimed at tarnishing the hospital’s image.Clarifying the issue, Dr N Beerappa, director of NIMS, said the hospital had received a complaint from a patient alleging that an outsourced employee had taken money by promising to facilitate a kidney transplant surgery. He said the matter was immediately brought to the notice of the Punjagutta police, which is currently investigating the case.Following a preliminary internal inquiry, the outsourced employee facing the allegations was relieved of duties, he said, adding that strict action would be taken if anyone else was found to be involved.Dr Beerappa urged the public not to believe the “misleading and malicious propaganda” being spread on social media regarding kidney transplants at NIMS. He expressed concern that certain individuals were trying to damage the reputation of the premier govt hospital, which serves lakhs of patients, for “selfish interests.”
