Ahmedabad: The Mahatma Gandhi Sabarmati Ashram Memorial Trust (MGSAMT) and the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad signed an MoU to support ongoing development of Sabarmati Ashram through design, research, education, and innovation, said NID officials on Tuesday.“Under the MoU, NID will provide design support across several key areas, including review of final museum designs and content, design advisory services for the overall look and feel of the ashram. The institute will also conceptualise and develop a curated range of souvenir products inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s life, values, and association with Sabarmati Ashram and Gujarat. NID will also design and develop a distinctive visual identity and logo for the Mahatma Gandhi Sabarmati Ashram Memorial Trust etc.,” a release stated.The foundation of the ashram project was laid on March 12, 2024, on the anniversary of the Dandi March. The redevelopment is being undertaken by the trust over approximately 55 acres of land.The project aims to inspire future generations and enhance the impact of Gandhi’s ideas. Visitors will be able to view informative exhibits showcasing Gandhi’s life and the ashram’s heritage, along with interactive displays on the salt satyagraha and independence movements initiated by Gandhi from Sabarmati Ashram.
