Jaipur: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced online portability for existing FASTags, allowing highway users to switch issuer banks without replacing the physical tag already fixed on their vehicles. The facility, available via the Rajmargyatra app from Monday, aims to reduce inconvenience for users experiencing poor service from their current FASTag provider.“The new OneTag portability feature lets a vehicle owner retain the same FASTag ID linked to the vehicle registration number while moving the account to another bank,” an official said.To begin, users must log in to the Rajmargyatra app and enter their vehicle registration number to check eligibility. The current issuer bank will send a six-digit mobile verification code to authenticate the user. After verification, the user can select a new issuer bank, complete customer verification, and undergo wallet onboarding with the chosen provider.Once portability is complete, the original issuer will close the existing FASTag wallet and refund the available balance after any applicable adjustments. The physical FASTag will continue to function, avoiding delays and duplication.“Users may port their FASTag issuer any number of times, but only after a six-month cooling period between two portability requests,” the official added.
