Dimapur: The Kohima district administration on Monday ordered the temporary closure of a section of National Highway-2 (Kohima-Mao section) passing through the Phesama sinking area for 10 hours from 8am to 6pm on Tuesday to facilitate restoration work and ensure public safety.Kohima district magistrate B Henok Buchem issued the order following a communication from the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), PMU Jakhama, which reported intermittent boulder falls from adjoining hill slopes along the affected stretch.During the closure, the movement of heavy motor vehicles will remain suspended. For light motor vehicles, traffic will be diverted via Kisama-Kigwema through Phesama Rhododendron Resort for two-way movement.Manipur-bound heavy vehicles have been advised to travel via Peren district. In emergencies, the Kohima-Jessami and Chakhabama-Zunheboto roads may be used, subject to permissible load limits, the order said.
